This has been on this one rock for months. It survived moving tanks, and hasn't spread but has seemed to get larger. Is this aptasia or some sort of anemone? Also, is it harmful, should it be removed?

Not the best picture, it's on the back side of a rock in the top of the tank, so it's a hard angle to get a picture of.

Yes it's an aiptasia and has the potential to over run your tank.
If there's nothing else on the rock it's on take the rock out and get rid of the nem outside of the tank.

+1, but I'd suggest using a butane lighter that you'd use for candles, starting a campfire, etc. I used my MAPP gas blow torch. Wiped out the nem for sure, but also did a number on my coralline. :(

Burn that sucker off if you can see it when it hides. If not drop the whole rock in pot of boiling water. The coralline and bacteria will come back.

It's close enough to the top, about 2" from the surface. I may just be able to lift it up, burn it off with a butane lighter and drop it back down in

If you can get it all. Any bit that is left will grow into another.

Why not get some of the aptasia x(think thats the name). Apply in tank with the syringe. Ive seen some people use alcohol to kill it as well. Someone confirm that though because it may have been vinegar haha, I cant remember
