Aptasia

the same as the boiling water, you inject it into the aiptasia. Look it up on youtube.

 

i have heard, and consequently will be trying very soon (hopefully tonight), is using sodium hydroxide (NaOH). it supposedly dissolves them, even in dilute doses. i will be sure to report my findings!

 

please do!! The lazer pointer theory looks like the most fun...anyone actually tried it?

 

youre damn right it does haha it looks like its a blast. i did a fair amount of research on em, the ones you need are 1 W, and quickly run a nice 200 bucks. the majano wand from marine depot would also be very fun you should check that out.. i also did get the NaOH i was talking about, mixed some in with a good amount of water to dilute it and injected into the aiptasia as best as possible. ill let yah know what happens!

It's not applied. I tried it just right, the %$^&*#@! apitasia still blew gametes creating tons of offspring. I could not get the peppers to eat them when I had a lot of fish, and the peppers disappeared.
Now I am mostly reef (after the 4 day power outagedie off.) I bought 8 peppers, it took a month but they ate 100% of the aptitasia. They became red with black tails and they are vicious! Five very mean bullies remaining and they romp around during the day! They are brutal!

 

Youve got to stuff the Joe's Juice down there little throats and seal them shut befor they vomit gametes. One by one, no mistakes, until you get them all.

Good luck with that if you try it. I thing apitasia should never be disturbed by human hands. They spread very easily.

 

do they always multiply?? Only reason i ask is i see aptasia in almost every display tank at LFS's

 

I tried this method with a 50 milliwatt 520nm laser pointer and it didn't even phase them. I think that you would need something on the order of a watt or so to do any real damage to their tissue.

 

I can see theoretically how throwing the entire apitasia into a "dead" zone would also kill the gametes. The problem is that you will need to find each and every one and they are often in nasty and hard to find areas. They are often more numerous than you can deal with. Mojanos may be a diferent story, I haven't had them yet.

You need to try different approaches with peppermints to get them hot and nasty. Once they're on it they don't stop until 100% apitasia are eaten.
