The skimmer itself is a great piece of equipment but with the effluent hose is always blowing a little air and the smell is terrible. Should I invest in the effluent chamber they sell for this thing or what? Is it worth it ? Does it cut down on the smell? My old skimmer never smelled up the basement like this but it probably never collected this much junk either. The Aqua C is only 5 days old another problem that I have is when I top off water the foam column breaks down is that normal?

yes the foam colum will break down in all of them , when new fresh TO or new replacment water is put in.

the additional chamber might be worth having, but the skimmer is doing it's job well enough i should think right ?
it's collecting and removing what has built up in your tank over time, once it runs it's course, ( you had/have a algae problem correct jim ? )
wet skimming with what you have works very well, you'll be supprized that you wont have or see as much being removed over time.
( once the algae problem and debris is removed/kept in check to minute levels ).
I have and sevral other own the 180 series of what you have, ( coulum is just a bit taller on ours ).
keep wet skimming etc, it will eventualy calm down, provided you don't build alot of waste reguarly,i.e over feeding etc.

Make a carbon bag and lay over the vent of the cup and if you use a collection unit the same deal .. It will subside once the the skimmer catches up.

The AquaC auto waste collector is a good investment for anyone with a EV series skimmer.

Got the larger size one for my EV 180 and very glad I did...

    AutoWaste Collector Features

    - Twist-Loc lid with EPDM gaskets

    - Carbon chamber for odor removal

    - Works with any EV Series skimmer

Available in two sizes: 2.5 liters and 5.0 liters

    - 2.5 liter version is 15" tall, 5" diameter

    - 5.0 liter version is 17" tall, 6" diameter

The larger is worth extra bucks.

    No smell, no possible overflow.
