isn't the point of the ps to help stabilize your water chem...

if it isn't skimming right you either gotta adjust something on the skimmer, adjust it's height, or get a new skimmer.

all skimmers msut skim, if it isn't doing a quality skim job after 2 weeks or so then you need to get a new one.

Mine always skimmed best with the rubber piece at the very bottom of the collection cup. Right where it starts to curve. Nice and thick.

    Hmmm....

As far as I know the use of protein skimming is to remove dissolved organic compounds, much like activated carbon, and has nothing to do with stabilizing water chem, ie salinity, calcium, alkalinity, etc ... The whole concept of skimming depends of surface tension and the adhesion of certain chemical compounds to said surface. Conditions can exist that prohibit this process, for example chemicals present on fish food and our skin can reduce skimmer output after feeding and sticking arms into the water. Perhaps concerning "chemistry" we are talking about different things, or maybe the same thing in a different way?

Anyway here is a good article from a renowned source:

What is Skimming? by Randy Holmes-Farley - Reefkeeping.com

"if it isn't skimming right you either gotta adjust something on the skimmer, adjust it's height, or get a new skimmer."

I agree with this statement, however I have a Remora that seems to work great after I got my part of the deal right, as do many others apparently which is why I purchased the Remora, so I have a hard time blaming the skimmer.

If you are using Prime or something like that it could cause this problem. Is your tank near your kitchen? There must be something in your water that is causing this. It should clear up on its own in time. 5-6 weeks sound like there is something that is constantly being put into the water that is causing this. Do you use RO water?

I have the AquaC - running with the maxi Jet 1200 and no-overflow box.

Last night I set the skim box to the highest level (Below the drainage fitting) and I can already see a difference. My overflow bucket is not filling nearly as fast as before. And in the skim box is just foam - no water is flowing over.

For water I use RO from Walmart. And when I'm doing a water change I usually buy Nutra-seawater from the LFS.

I"ll monitor it for a few days

    Thanks for your help
