Got this in the inbox today and thought I'd share... 3reef sponsor OCReef has Aqua Cultured Red Hawaiian Mangroves for $2.99!

    Hello Aquarium Hobbyists,

We have just received a new shipment of our Aqua Cultured Red Hawaiian Mangroves and they are beautiful! They are between 7 to 11 inches tall, with leaves and a full root system. They are on sale now for only $2.99 (regular price is $16.99). Offer good while supplies last! We generally sell out in the first week of receiving our shipment.

Why Hawaiian Versus the Florida Species of Mangrove?

Studies have shown the Hawaiian species is much hardier, takes to life in an aquarium much better, and as it grows, under optimal conditions, red coloration will appear on its trunk, branches and leaves.

Not only do Mangroves absorb and adsorb Silicates, Phosphates and Nitrates from aquarium water, they give a beautiful natural look to most aquariums.

    Versatility

For Saltwater Aquariums we recommend one Mangrove per gallon of water.

The Red Hawaiian Mangrove can be acclimated and grown in saltwater aquariums, brackish aquariums, and freshwater aquariums. It can also be used in Reptile aquariums and terrariums. They can be used in Betta Fish Vases and can even be planted in the yard, around a pond, or on the patio in a pot.

Are they safe to ship to Northern States where it is extremely cold?

Yes. We send them in an insulated box, for a safe journey to you.

Wishing you a Happy & Prosperous New Year,

    OCReef.com Staff

Wow, that would be a lot of mangroves for a 75 gallon tank, with a 30 gallon sump!

We ship them USPS United States Postal Service (Priority). We have found this method to be the most cost effective and efficient method to use for shipping anywhere in the U.S. Up to a $30.00 purchase from OCReef.com is only $6.99 on all items.

    Hi,

You can also plant the Mangroves inside your aquarium or refugium. Many hobbyists will grow them out of the back of their aquarium, or even above their aquarium while having the roots grow down in the aquarium. While we do recommend one per gallon for more effective nitrate absorption, this is not needed... A few plants will also partially help filter water, just not on as large of a scale as many plants would.
