What is everyone's take on aquacultured vs wild caught/harvested?

I have been researching clams and want to get one soon. What is the difference between survival rates between wild and aguacultured?

No idea about survival rates of clams, I would assume aquacultured would be more hardy due to being raised in tanks and being more acclimated to an artificial environment but that's just a guess based on what I've heard of wild vs aquacultured coral.

Aside from that whenever possible I think aquaculture is the best option, the reefs etc are in enough trouble as is so anything we can do to minimize our impact on wild populations is a good thing IMO.

I would buy aquacultured any time I could, for any sort of livestock. They are generally more hardy and there is no impact on the reefs in our oceans. I believe though that most clams are maricultured anyways, where people basically farm them in the ocean then harvest them and sell them.

I am with lojack and guitarman, and anyone else saying to buy aquacultured when possible.

Some things like Kaudern's cardinals are one thing i would not buy if it were not aquacultured. Wild caught pones typically won't eat in a tank.

i agree with if you can get aquacultured on all livestock.. go for it! however when it comes to clownfishes... i prefer wild due to the wild clownfishes has really great colors compare to aquacultured ones that has a bit dull colors. but aquacultured are a lot more hardy...

i think both are ok dont bash me as yet but here's how I Think

what hapends when you inbreed thats right you get retarded fishes because after a while there all being inbreed with other ones

i'm not saying wild caught is better either Because thats raping our reefs so when is it ok for wild caught aquacultured in that matter ok

lets start with aquacultured All the fish look the same we have cool patterns also but if you r not going to breed the fish buy aquacultured the reason why even if you get 2 fishes with the same lineage it does'nt matter because your not breeding them and no messed up babies are coming into the hobby

Now Wild caught when should you but them if your breeding them then buy wild caught because the lineage is stronger and it makes for some good generations

    makes sense?
