Has anyone used an Aqua Lifter pump on a timer for an auto top off? I think you could figure out your evaporation rate and apply that to the timer accordingly? Anybody? Or i guess i could just get a float switch LOL!:p

Every day is different in terms of evap...you'd be setting and resetting the timer quite often, IMHO.

BTW, I've tried using an aqualifter on more than one occasion (I probably still have a couple in my closet) as an ATO, and they just don't work very well at all...get a small PH to use as a pump.

I disagree on the aqualifter. It has worked great on my tanks for years.

This is what I do using my Apex Jr.

I got a cheap powerhead at Petsmart and have it run for 3 seconds every hour. Is it 100% accurate? No... But it's fail safe and is a better option than adding water by hand every day. I've had it this way for 3-4 months and I've never had it add too much or too little water.

Someday I'll get one of those Tunze ATO or something from Spectrapure but until then mine has been fine.

Use the float switch for your ATO. You can use an Aqua Lifter if your evaporation is low, other wise I would suggest use a pump with greater flow. I use Aqua Lifters for my dosing pumps.

I have used one for a while with no problems at all. It is connected to a float switch that i got from autotopoff.com
