well i dont make very many threads on this site but when i do its ussually a new and pretty intresting topic (well at least i think so).....

So if anybodys familiar with the "aqua-tint" or "aqua-shade" products used to tint pond water blue, im wondering if its reef safe or saltwater safe in general..

ive used it in many freshwater setups with plants and inverts and its always tempting to try in my reef just to find out but i dont want to risk it...

The stuff we use to kill algae blooms in our big ponds is copper based, deff not reef safe. Makes the water a nice blue green for a few weeks.... but that's not natural, so we just use it to kill algae.

    edit:
We use the copper stuff to kill mosquito larve, not algae.

Aquashade uses an acid dye. I would think it might affect pH and cause precipitation of calcium... contact Applied Biochemistry, the makers, see what they say.

The copper stuff we uses turns the water blue, and does the same thing... never used Aquashade.

as an herbicide it would kill all your algae... no food for algae eaters, no macro in the fuge....

if you want a bluer tank try more actinic lighting, or apply a blue lighting gel to the front of the tank....
