I just recieved my new AquaC EV-120 today and hooked it up with a RIO2500 pump.

The instructions say that the water level in the skimmer should be level with the top of the internal platform.

With the gate valve completely open my water level comes to the top of the black box and you see the water/Bubbles in the lower portion of the riser tube.

Is this correct or am I using too strong of a pump and the water level needs to be lower?

Not an expert on the skimmer, but did you try shutting the air intake off. Than set the water level and than turn your air intake back on. That's how I used to setup my beckett skimmer.

+2 on that. Make sure there is no air coming into the skimmer when you set the water level.

I agree with what has been said.

The water level needs to be to the internal platform during break in. After that, it should be at the top of the box. Where the top of the skimmer intersects the foam chamber. I don't know about your Rio. AquaC recomends a Mag 5. I use a Mag 7 and can still adjust my water level. The gate isn't wide open.

I had a Mag 5 also laying around that I was using to mix water for water cahnges so I swapped the pumps to the Mag 5. I was able to get the water level lower with it but the gate valve is still wide open. It has been running for 2 days now and no noticable skim yet, but the instructions said it could take a while. I left the air valve completely open last night and when I got up this morning it had skimmed about 3 gallons of straight water out into the 5 gallon bucket I'm using as a drain so I ahd to add some water to the sump and I turned the air valve to about 3/4 open.
