Hey guys. I need a little input. I've got a 54g mixed reef going with a few fish(moderately stocked & fairly new). I currently have a CSS 125 and I hate it. I've fiddled with the pump for countless hours, tried all the mods and bubble production is weak. It doesn't seem to produce enough foam to me. There has to be more DOC's in my water than its pulling. What a waste...but now I'm looking to replace it. I've been reading up and I'm torn between the EV-120 and the Octopus DNWB 110. Read nothing but good things about both. I plan on running a mag7 if I go with the EV and slapping a valve on it. Gonna have to be mounted ouside the sump. I dont have much space under my cabinet, so the EV will be a bit easier to work with, although both should work. Noise could be my biggest concern with the Octo and its recirc pump. Anyone have any experience with either of these??

I don't care fro EVs, but not because they don't work. You very well could be pulling what you have out. An EV- 120 will work for you, and since you have to go outside, it is a good option. Personally though, the mag 7 will be over kill for a 54g. Just run a Mag 5 and you will still have plenty of room to spare. Less power and heat added.

If you go with the EV120 mine performed far better with a mag7 than a mag5. Was on a bigger tank but i'd still go with the 7 in your case.

Mine ran better with a Mag 7 too, but that was on a 90g. A 54g just isn't going to give an EV enough bio load to even break a sweat. Just my opinion.

EVs are great if space is tight, but I doubt it will be any quieter than the Octo.

Octo for sure. You will not regret it.

I have never had an Octopus skimmer so i cant comment on its behalf, but I do have a AquaC EV 180 and its a great skimmer. I little pricey if you ask me, but a great skimmer none the less. As for which Magdrive, seeing that you have a 54g, I would stay with the Mag-5 as Powerman stated. Good luck with your choice.
