I was hoping someone with experince with one of these could help me. I installed this recently and after running it for 48-72 hours it just goes nuts and seems to skimm everything, that is a very wet skimate.

I tried closing the air valve... is that the wrong thing to do? help!

The manual tells how to get wet and dry skimmate.

They have to break in for a while. Just like the instructions say. You are not going to get consistent results for a while. If it is new, have patients. If it is used, make sure the spray nozzle and air valve are perfectly clean. Don't assume.

Just run the water level at the top of the inside baffle like it says. After it breaks in, the level should be at the top of the skimmer as it goes into the riser tube.

I ran mine too wet for a while till I saw what dry was in my LFS. After that, they are not too hard to get where I want.

Cut off all the inlet air to the skimmer then adjust the water inlet control valve to allow the water level to just get to the bottom of the riser column and not any higher then 1/2 inch into that riser.. Open the air valve just enough to let it start to hiss and let it go for several Hrs . Then adjust it open a little more until you get what you want.. But it will take several days to a week as there is a lot's to skim .. You want tiny fine bubbles larger bubbles are not what you need they are to wet..

ic ok... i think i need to get a ball valve between the skimmer and spray nozzle...no matter how much i adjust the gate valve the amount of water is at the top of the inside baffle. i did get the skimmer package and it came with a mag 5 the recommended pump.
    thanks for your help tho.

I have the same skimmer with the mag 5 pump I would suggest that you make sure your gate valve is full open and unrestricted running back into the sump. Next like tangster said you want fine bubbles not big ones so fully close the blue handle on the air valve. Then open it really slowly a Very little bit at a time I would start with a 1/4 of the way open or less. This skimmer takes a while to fully break in ( a Week Maybe) and it is sensitie to the adjustment of the air valve a micro adjustment is all you want to do at a time ( you have to watch it for a few minutes between adjustments) On the plus side it is a Really goo Skimmer and once you go through the adjustment period and figure out how it works best you will not be dissapointed with the results I am really happy with mine and once I went through the break in period and figured out the proper setting ( Mine is gate valve RED fully open and blue air valve 1/4 of the way open ) It rocks. This skimmer has 1 thing to watch however You MUST make sure the Breathing outlet on the collection cup is not blocked because that shuts down production as a safety so you will not overflow I use the collection container made for the skimmer and would highly reccomend it.

I figured it out finally..... there is an additional john guest attachment for ozone or a calcium reactor. so i found something to plug it up for now... and dialed it in nicely!

Works great now.... if i was more observant i would have notice it before!
