I currently have the EV-120. My system is about 100 gallons total, and I feel like I have BARELY enough skimmer for the job.

A guy at my local reef club has a Tunze DOC 9010 for sale for $200. It's rated for up to 260 gallons.

    Should I make the switch??

Unrelated to the Tunze, but how are you liking the 120? Would you consider swaping up to the EV-240?

I just sold the fiance on letting me build a close-to-400 gallon system when we buy our house and the EV-1000 is my top choice for both a cost/performance idea. The Tunze 9020 was also pretty high up on my list of choices, so I am curious as to how they stack up.

I have an EV-180 and it works great. I have a 180G system (150g DT/30g sump) so it was pushed to the limits since it is a messy predator tank. I upgraded that skimmer recently, but it worked great. I anticipate it will be perfect for my 65g tank when I make it into a reef. Since Dixie's tank system is over 100g, I would have suggested an EV-180 over the EV-120. Aqua-C is one of the best makes out there though, and reasonably priced for the performance.

I like my 120 a little better since yesterday, when I swapped out the mag 5 pump (recommended by marine depot) for a mag 7. I'm going to pass on the DOC 9010 and see how this goes for a while.

It's a little more touchy now, but when I get it dialed in I think it's going to be a dramatic improvement.

yeah, just put a ballvalve to dial back the output a bit and you are going to see a huge improvement on performance. Mags are very durable too, they are tanks.

The Mag7 doesn't need a valve (contrary to what AquaC's website says), I can say that from experience now.

Boy does it skim better though. I get the same skimmate in three days that used to take a week.
