So, getting ready to orecer the AquaC EV-180 Protein Skimmer W/ Mag7 Pump.

I want the overflow cup, but do I need to buy the 80.00 container or does a 2 liter pepsi bottle work just as good ?

    Anyone have this setup ?

    \Cheers

2 liter bottle or other container will work just fine....

The overflow canisters are nice because a lot of them have auto shut offs if they overflow, they cut power to the main skimmer pump.

I use a 32oz water bottle for my overflow canister. I just have to remember to empty it every 2 weeks.

Edit: Woohoo! Im a Fire Worm now!

I have the whole set up and I bought the collection cup and I love it here is why the skimmer actually is exhausting gas into the collection cup which is sealed so the gas passes out the drain tube if gas cannot exhaust out the tube the skimmer shuts down now when the waste container gets full of skimmate it has a valve that cuts off the air and therefore cuts off skimmer production untill you can empty the waste ( this saved me from having an overflow of skimmate when my skimmer was still breaking in) . Another thing that may seem small but really it is kind of important the waste container has a carbon chamber that lets the stinky gas(air) pass through and deodorizes it so your house will not ever smell like a dirty skimmer. I got it I highly reccomend it I got the 2.5 liter one and it works great meaning I do not have to empty it that often.

You could drain into any bottle true but that is not going to prevent overflows and the foul odors.
