My skimmer is about 4 months old now and for about the last 3 weeks it only skims clean water in the collection cup. It does not skim any dark gunky water like it use too. I have a surface skimmer with a maxi 1200. The collection up is all the way to the top. I have taken the skimmer out of the tank and cleaned the whole thing and still the same thing. Does anyone have any ideas Thanks Mike.

    Well a few things..

    1. Cleaning it often may slow down the production as the surface friction of the foam riding up the units walls is probably higher - in other words, a small coating of tank matter on the walls may be good.
    2. It takes a while for skimmers to settle in so-to-speak... Just keep playing with the cup levels and you will find the sweet spot.
    3. The ramora tech support is AWESOME - drop them an email, voice your concerns.. If anyone can help THEY will.

I would be happy to get WATER in my collection cup, it's been a week so far and nothing...:-/ Adjusted the collection cup at like 2pm today and still, not one drop of anything, it's not even foaming...

Mine would occasionally do that for no apparent reason. Is it on a sump or on your tank? Also, to nano reefer, I am having the same problem, but it is getting better now. I started a sump in December and my skimmer hasn't been the same since. It didn't produce any foam. I finally emailed the company and they responded very quickly with a very detailed list of potential problems. I narrowed it down to the addition of my new sump and return pump. The guy said that these usually have some oily residue on them which needs to be broken down or removed. The oil causes the bubbles to pop once they reach the surface. He also said that when he adds loc line, it messes his skimmer up for about a month, which I also added. I have done some water changes and it is not producing some foam. They do have very good customer service.

I know how you feel, I just don't get it. I bought mine used, was already working very well, the guy takes it off the tank the same day I buy it. Waited a while, put it on my tank... now nothin! You would think with my tank being already cycled, TONS of fish crap and everything, that I would have at least some DOC's but maybe I don't...? I just don't know what to say...

I just put on a CPR skimmer, which is similar to the remora I think. Somebody out there know if they are the same or different? I'm borrowing it from a friend, and I'm only using it while I clean up my Coralife 125 super skimmer, because I have someone that wants to buy it off me for $100 and won't have any use for it later. It wet skims, nothing so thick or dark to speak of, but it's pulling out some waste. The coralife 125 superskimmer pumps more water through and does a much better job though.
Here's some pics. Also, love the intense coloration and growth I've been seeing since upgrading my PC bulbs to the UVL actinc white and UVL super actinic. It looks really blue in the pic, but it's really more purple looking in person.

I had used the cpr when I started my 85 and it worked fine since my tank was light stocked. Its one of the things I saved for whatever reasons.
