Aquac remora pump?

I'm buying the aquac remora with ou a pump, whats a good sized cheap pump I should get for it with my 55 gallon ?

 

I'd recommend a maxijet 1200- that's what is on mine. The Remora uses injection skimming (blasts a thin jet of water into the skimmer to produce microbubbles, so you need a properly sized pump otherwise it will not run properly.

 

Do you think a rio+ 2400 pump will work?

 

No,the recommended rio pump for it is the rio 800,the 2400 would be way too much overkill.As mentioned,this is an air injection skimmer,an over sized pump will just flood your tank with microbubbles and overflow the cup.

I run a mj1200 on mine and use a ball valve to turn it down a bit,it cut down drastically with microbubbles and let it make darker skimmate.

 

So 748gph is too much? How many GPh do you think would good, does the brand if the pump really matter

Yes,way too much.The mj1200 is only 295gph.No it won't matter on the brand as long as it can be attached.So you will want a 250 to 300 gph pump.The maxi jet 1200 is a reliable pump for only around $25 bucks.

No prob,the mj1200 is a very popular pump for it's size,they are easily found in most fish stores or online supply stores.
