Can anyone tell me from the pics if this skimmer is working correctly? I just set this up yesterday, and followed the instructions exactly, and wanted to know if this is normal.

My skimmer is not really producing any foam, just a little which just turns to water in the collection cup. I am using stress coat in my water. Also, I have yet to cycle this tank, it has been running with a Emp 400 for a little over a week, and with this skimmer for about a day. I plan to add my LR on Thur. to start the cycle.

It will take a few days for the Skimmer to brake in. I'm not sure of the reaction "stress coat" will have but I will assume it will redoes the bubbles. you can try to adjust the injector screw until you are not getting water in the collection cup. I would do this very slowly. Like 1/8 of a turn and see the reaction over 1 hour or so. But for now odds are with not bio load and the new skimmer very little skimming needs to be done.
just wait until you add LR then you will see it skim.

Yep. What J said. Stress coat may be freaking it out (I've heard it does this, no experience with it ) - raise the cup higher.

I've got 2 Remora skimmers, and stress coat will make your skimmer over skim. I don't recommend using the stress coat for this reason besides the fact there's not proof it actually works.

Newbe to the board so I feel a little strange correcting an "old timer". The Injector screw you are refering to. If you mean the set screw to hold the collection cup by all means raise the cup and tighten the screw but if you are reffering to the screw in the pipe leading to the injector nozzle it is simply a plug you remove to run a brush down to clean the injection nozzle. \

If you are using stress coat shut the skimmer down for a day or two.

Salt Creep is right...the screw is merely for the cleaning of the injector. There is a rubber gasket around the skimmer cup that can be raised and lowered to your desired amount. Raising the cup produces drier foam, lowering wetter foam.

It sounds to me like you don't really have that much to skim yet and that the skimmer will take a few days to get going. (I personally would not recommend using Stress Coat..it is just something else that doesn't need to be in the water.) I am not sure of your setup but I wouldn't worry about the skimmer until the tank has been up for a couple of months. The skimmer will not produce foam if there is nothing to skim. The LR will start some reaction from it but it will take some time until there is some die off before anything will be noticeable. Skimmers for the most part help remove proteins, waste and dead material.

I will concur with the others, I have the urchin in my sump and it took a couple of days for the new plastic surfaces to be "seasoned" to allow bubble production. Couple that with no bio load to speak of, I would wait for the LR and see. BTW nice tank, I am envious. Good Luck.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Since stress coat is not good to use, what is the best product to use to remove chlorine from tap water? I'm not using RO/DI water right now, but I plan to purchase a unit in the future.

Steelers there are so many products for chlorine/chloramine it would be hard to say. For fresh water I have been using Proper PH 7 from Aquarium Pharmaceuticals. They also make a PH 8.2 but I have not used...RO/DI here!!

    check this link:

    http://www.thetropicaltank.co.uk/rev-cond.htm

It lists a bunch and whether or not they have a slime coat additive in them.

Also post a question in the Chemistry forum and see what everybody thinks!!
