I have a 55g reef tank and run an AquaC Remora HOB on it with MJ 1200. It skims pretty nicely I usually empty my cup once a week or so. I do not have a sump & do not plan on ever adding one. I was wondering how much better my tank would do with the Remora Pro & say a Mag 3 or 5? There's nothing wrong with my tank, but my fish stock is on the higher end and I wonder if it would be best to upgrade.

Anyone ever go from the standard to the Pro & your thoughts?

    Thanks!

The optional surface skimmer cup will give you more bang for the buck then moving to the Pro. JMO (I have run both but I've not moved from one to the other on the same tank).

Thanks for the advice Curt, I did initially get the pre-skimmer box but ended up selling it. The main issue was that it's hard to maintain the water level flowing into the box, once it dropped under it due to evap the pump would run dry and possibly burn out. I sometimes am away & cannot top off so felt it would be a problem. For that reason I decided to not keep it.

I, also, have upgraded from the standard to the pro and feel that this is a beneficial step up. You can never have enough waterflow or filtration, IMO.
My 75 is stocked with a 3' Snowflake Moray Eel, 4" Hardwicki Wrasse, 5" Sohal Tang and 6" Banded Catshark and the Pro does a great job maintaining good water quality.
I also do bi-weekly water changes and add carbon/phoshate remover as well. Everything has been doing well for a year now.
    Go with the PRO!

I had the Pro and it was ok but a surface skimmer box is needed.....plus it is benificial to the oxygen exchange in your tank.

The one thing without the skimmer box a Mag 3 or 5 is a big blob on the back wall....I just put in a sump on my 65
