aquac remora upgraded to mag 3 from mj 1200

Has anyone here done this modification. If you have can you post your results. I just did this yesterday and am wondering if I have to modify the skimmer in any way.

i did it...you dont have to mod it in anyway

some places actually sell the remora with a mag3 instead of a mj1200...and it actually works a lot better!!

 

When I ran one on my old 55g I done the mod to a 395 gph pump and the only thing I noticed was mor bubbles making it back to the tank but I had it in my sump and wasn't worried about it.

 

i have the remora with mj 1200 with the cup up as high as it can go i still get tea colored skimate does it over flowwith a stronger pump?

 

The flow is definately alot stronger. The water does come to the top of the reaction chamber now. Some bubbles do get buy the bottom of the reactor tube. I lined this area with airline tubing split lengthwise to stop some of the extra flow. I think the skimmer has to adjust to the added water flow. I was having the same problem as you. Steve at aquac said because of the amount of filtration I have there probably wasn'y much docs left to skim.

 

also i wrappe teflon tape around the colecttion cup square base and its a tight fit. no bubbles can get bo as far as bio load ike killed all my corals and fish exept 2 green cromis and a few snails and a 5 head zoe frag and i still get good skimmate

i also have cut a old style bio ball and stuffed it into the neck of the cup to pop all the big bubbles and keep the cup from overflowing. with the mag 3 does it just make alot more smaller bubbles but still makes the large ones that over flow the cup?

 

It is making alot of smaller bubbles and also bigger bubbles. It is skimming very wet. This pump is mad powerful. I just ordered a ball valve to cut the flow a little. I think that will make it perfect.
