hmm, well my intake for the skimmer is about 5 inches down into the water so im not sure the currentl level would be the cause. I replaced the gallon or so that the cannister used..

Sounds like there is just nothing to skim.
You should still be getting some foam/ bubbles. If they are clear then there just is not much junk to be taken out of your system.
I can't watch the videos you created but it sounds like everything is cooperating correctly. Wait a few more days and if your still not skimming much then do a ammonia test. It could not be skimming much right now due to adding the canister filter that may have some coating over the plastic that needs to acclimate to your tank.

it couldn't hurt to add some "makeup" water(salt).. if you have some already made. I like to fill mine just over the lip on the plastic rim surrounding the tank. That way I don't get a film residue on the glass part when the water evaps. Nothing has ever tried to escape. Have you recently put in ro/di, tap or bottled? I had an old skimmer that would stop skimmming when I added top off water(without salt).

I've had my Remora for over a year now and the noise is still there. My skimmate levels went down for a while and I initially thought it was the addition of my sump/fuge that helped, along with the maturation of the tank. Then I took the time to take my maxi-jet out of the overflow box that I've got crammed into my little sump. Cleaning that powerhead has increased my Remora production quite a bit in the past week.
As for the damn noise: I've tried lots of methods that I've found out on the web. I created a plastic noise baffle, I've cut foam to size and I've folded up paper towels and shoved them in there. Even putting the thing under my tank in a sump cabinet hasn't truly done the trick. The paper towels were the easiest and best attempt at a solution.
Good luck and let us know if you find that magic bullet!
