    Hey everyone,
Mike in Orlando here again. I have a question: I've ready through a lot of these posts heard you all say great things about Octopus, SWC, and a few other brands of skimmers. I haven't heard a lot about the AquaC EV series skimmers. Are these as good of a skimmer or better than the about mentioned? Also, the AquaC skimmers have an option for a JG fitting that you can pay extra for. What the heck is JG fitting and what does it do? I have not got a clear idea on this from what I've looked at. Thanks guys.

    Mike

"The John Guest "Speedfit" fitting is a great feature you will only find on AquaC ozone-equipped skimmers. This fitting is standard on models EV-240 and above, and can be ordered on the EV-120/180. Aquarists may also connect their calcium reactor effluent line to the skimmer`s speedfit connection. The pH of a calcium reactor effluent typically falls between 6.5-6.9, and over time the addition of this low pH effluent can have a deleterious effect on the system`s pH level. By dosing your effluent directly into the skimmer, excess CO2 will be "blown off" into the atmosphere and the tank pH will remain unaffected."

That should answer ur question :)

I read this exact same description. So basically it is only something you would be interested in if you have a calcium reactor am I correct? Because if you hook your calcium reactor to it the excess CO2 will be blown off into the atmosphere. If you don't have a calcium reactor what the heck is the point of this fitting?

I have the EV180 and I got it with the JG fitting. With the fitting it was a few bucks more. I don't have a calcium reactor now but will in the future, so for now I just plug the hole.

I'd say AquaC's are pretty good skimmers. I think the AquaC Remora is TERRIBLE!! But my 120 was doing alright. It's very touchy - when I put my hand in the water, or dose anything, all of the bubbles stop rising. Very emotional skimmer.

I swapped it out with a Deltec TC2060 skimmer. OMG it's awesome! And no, I have not explained to my other half how much it costs..... =)
They pull out a similar amount of skimmate - Deltec is all dry though, and my aquaC was medium to wet.

I have an AquaC Remora Pro and like it pretty well; have not had any problems with it. It is a beast though and would probably look better in a sump than HOB.

i have the 400 model, it does a very good job but you really have to over drive it with a big pump. much bigger than what it calls for. like others say i get a medium to wet skimmate.
