Aquaclear skimmer box?

Anyone use one of these on their aquaclear hob filters? Do they work? Do they still filter the rest of water not just top? Should you run a separate hob along with it? Here's a pic of what it looks like

 

Have never used one but it looks like a good mod.The reason for it is that the water with the most dissolved solids is near the surface,that is also what causes surface film.This should improve efficiency of the filter with the only drawback being that you will need to pay more attention to your water level and perhaps top off more often so that the filter doesn't loose siphon.It should filter all of the water just as well or better provided you have sufficient flow in your tank.

 

Cool thanks. It seems like a good idea. Right now I'm running on just powerheads, so I think I'm going to try an AC 70 on my 40 breeder.
