I have been looking at this unit and would like for someone to explain what all it does in easy to understand terms. Would like any and all input on the unit as well. Would you recommend it. It monitors ph and temp I know but what else does it actually do. Thanks

You know that you can go to a retailer and read all the features that it has........right?

It controls all of your lighting needs
It can also be used as a wave maker
It can turn on/off fans when temps get too high
It can control dosing pumps when the PH gets too low
It can control anything that can get plugged into an outlet.
You can also connect it to your PC.

I love this thing, am trying to figure out how I can connect it to my wife:eek:..............then and only then.....life would be perfect........lmao

Depends on what you have. You can go buy a bunch of undependable timers. You can buy a bunch of toys that come with control units. Or you can buy a controller.

I don't have anything fancy. Meaning no kalk/alk/ca reactor stuff. I just using dosing pumps for my 2 part. I monitor PH just because it is helpfull, but I don't control PH.

Having said that, I love my Jr. Instead of using equipment thermostats, you just use the Jr. to turn stuff on and off at specific points. I now keep my temp within .3 degrees. My light timer died, so I have all my lights controlled. You can program feeding cycles to turn of specif equipment for a period of time to feed. Then it is just one button control for feed times.

Most importantly, what is does is provide safety. With everything on it's own, you are stuck with faulty heaters sticking on. Chiller failures. Ph swings. With a controller, you program in safety routines that say "if theis happens, then do this. If temp rises above set point, turn off heater. If temp rises above this, turn off lights. If the power goies out, power up like this. If the PH goes nuts, turn off the reactor. If the temp probe fails, turn off heater and chiller.......

The safety is the biggest benefit in my mind. You are only limited with imagination when it comes to turning things on and off.

The other features you can add are lighting cycles that follow actually real life cycles. Wave maker cycles. Temp cycles all seasonal, natural cycle stuff.

Please keep n mind, the JR. only controls 12 outlets. I use all 12 and I don't have Ca reator or wavemakers. I could make room for stuff if need be, but I'm good. Just something to consider. Plan out what you will need.

Can you control it from your PC and have something like Otty does in his signature? And what is the big difference between this and the Aquacontroller-3?

The difference is the world, just ask Otty. If I remember correctly, the AC-3 can control 24 outlets and all the "add-ons". Go to marine-depot and look it up. Luna

Yes I know I can read all the features but it gets all confusing. They don't put it in terms like you just did. Thanks.

I don't use all the bells and whistles, but it is still very nice. Like I didn't have room to put my power heads on. I have a DC4 and DC 8 and I'm full. I didn't even know my skimmer will overflow if the sump level is high. I plugged in my skimmer and return pump one day to put them back on and my skimmer overflowed. So now, I tell it if the power goes out, turn the skimmer on 5 minutes after the return pump. Just simple stuff like that is really cool.

Total temp control and safety is the most usfull features. Feed timmers for convienience, and natural light cycles for the inhabitants. And data logs to go back and monitor everything.
