I can't decide which one of these to get, the 48" Aquactinics TX5 5-bulb or the 48" TEK Elite 4-bulb fixture.

Thoughts/opinions? The fixture needs to fit over my 12" 55g reef so hanging isn't an option (since I rent & landlord won't permit it).

I'm leaning towards the TX5 as it seems I could upgrade to a 75g down the line and still use the same fixture.

Also if anyone has suggestions on where to get either for the best price.

    Let me know your thoughts,

    Thanks!

Go with the TX5, greater options for spectrum manipulation and I believe it uses a little higher quality components also.

I just got my 48" tek elite 4 bulb... I like it, it doesn't weigh much and the fans run silent. Very well constructed. I hung mine, buts it's going to come down to preference. I got it for a good price from a vendor here TBaquatics...

I love my 6 bulb tek. I have no complaints at all. Looking at the aquatinics I see that the bulbs are aligned paradoxically. IDK if this will positively or negatively affect the reflection of light into the tank. I would have to assume that if the light is more than a few inches above the tank light will be reflected outside of the tank and not into the tank. Just my 2 cents.

I do like the TEK's don't get me wrong. I was offered a TEK 6-bulb (non elite) from my good friend for FREE. But unfortunately my landlord wouldn't permit any drilling or anything in the ceiling over the tank. So sadly I couldn't take the light because it was too wide for my tank. I have hob stuff on the back and it would have to be 9" or higher to clear it.

I have read a bit on the TX5 and it's fixture shape. I think what I've heard is it's fine for depth but over something like a 90g, the front and rear of the tank would get weak output (because the bulbs were focused in the center because of the round bend of it), something along that line. With my 55g I think it would be more than enough.
