I just ordered some aquacultured live rock. I got 50 lbs of dry rock and 25lbs of premium live rock. Currently I have 16lbs of live rock in my 56g that has been running for about 2 weeks. I have 2 clowns and 1 coral banded shrimp. Will the new dry rock hurt my tank?

The dry rock won't but the new live rock may cause your tank parameters to spike.

So what do you suggest I do? Is there an additive I can get to help out?

Yea some of the organisms on the lr will die and adding them to your tank will cause a spike and maybe a
Mini cycle...... Maybe. I'm not sure if there is anything you could add there prob is but just to help with the ammonia spike

If you could I would try to put that in a separate tank and wait for your levels to even out then add the lr to your tank

Exactly this. Put the live rock in a large trash can or rubbermaid container with saltwater, a heater and an extra powerhead, if you have one. Test the water params and do a waterchange every couple days, until you don't see any parameter spikes - might take a couple weeks. If there's a bunch of dead gunk on the rock, you can scrub it off with a toothbrush or nailbrush during water changes.

You can put the dry rock in now, it won't harm a thing.

Since your tank is only 2 weeks old, I would just leave it in there and let the tank cycle. I'm not sure that adding a shrimp to such a young tank was the best idea though. They are very sensitive to water conditions and may not survive the cycle. Good luck!

Yeah I know I am going to give him to a friend until my tank is through the cycle completely. I always have trouble waiting...

What amcarrig said! Since your tank is only 2 weeks in to the cycle adding live rock now really isen't going to change much, life stock right now sure wouldn't be a good idea.

Ha. Didn't even notice the age of your tank.

Yeah, just throw everything in there and let it cycle in-tank. Much easier.
