AquaIllumination's Plasma Aquarium Lamp

Are these things out on the market as yet?
I'll be interested in trying them out.
I cant seem to find any recent articles.

They sound like they would be expensive...but I really like the idea. I wanna try them out a well. I've not heard any recent news either. I wonder if this concept ever went anywhere?

 

I followed these a lot when they first came into being... they are already in use in public lighting, but I believe the fervor of LED's kind of killed this tech off for aquariums. It's too bad, because it is supposed to be more efficient and cost effective than LED's output per watt used.

My guess is that there may have been some problems gaining momentum competing against over-hyped (in my opinion) flashy LED's. I believe the company holding the sole patent on this technology may also be keeping prices high.

It may be that we see the fad of LED's come and go and this will come into the market eventually... I can only hope.

 

That would be very neat if this is the case.

I have actually heard of a reefer using them today so that's why I brought it up.
I will look for the thread and post a link here.
I would imagine the prices would be extremely high.
And gabbagabbawill, I too think they're over hyped but I do have a few PAR 30s that I love for now. I got them for experimentation purposes-the same reason I'm interested in trying plasma bulbs.

This Guy is from Portugal,
Very Very Very Interesting set up. I'm sure lots of people already know of him.
He's running 2 fixtures over his DT each with one plasma bulb supplemented by T5.

WOW! That's Expensive.
$1400+$75 for one fixture is way too high for what it is. IMO
