AquaMaxx Hob-1 skimmer review

This is my first ever video review

Day 1 - Got this skimmer in today. Initially I had ordered the octopus bh-100ss but due to them being on backorder, saltysupply gave me a nice deal on an upgrade and I am so glad I did it. The set up was easy and this video is about 10 minutes after priming the pump and gettin the skimmer going. That was about 4 hours ago and already I have a 1/8 cup of dark skimmate and its not even broken in yet. The bubbles in the tube of the collection cup are like a thick foam and the best part is the sound you hear in the video is from the fan on the light fixture and it seems loud only cause the cameras rite above it but sitting on the couch I just hear a very light sound of the fan and faint hum of the skimmer pump. The thing is silent, my last skimmer was a cpr bak pak with mods, performed pretty well but awfully loud. I used to have to turn it off to watch movies sometimes. The aquamaxx is made of thick strong acrylic too unlike other skimmer I have seen. I'm very happy with the purchase and looking forward to the results in the next few days but as of rite now, it sure smells like success ;D

Day - 2 So I emptied the cup out last night and just got home a lil bit ago and have a good bit of real dark skimmate as you can see from the pictures. Still running quietly.

Any advice for my new tank diatom bloom which seems to have worsened since yesterday but couldnt be due to the skimmer. I'm hopin its a good sign before it all dissapears

the diatom bloom could have increased due to additional silicate availability from the skimmer or plastics used on the skimmer
but either way, best thing to do, is ignore it and let it run its course
in 4 - 6 weeks from now, the tank will look clean again

Day 3 - havent changed the cup since day 1 night time and this is what I have accumulated. Im so impressed with this skimmer. Check out the clowns I picked up today

It is actually one of the best on the market. These were imported under a different name I recently found out. Aquamaxx is now importing them under their name. The line is actually a very good line of skimmers. Something that should be considered.

 

I believe this model is available in China under the Aqua Excell brand name?

I have seen the Aqua Excell units for this model and some of the larger sump models in action and they do look very good
