I have ordered my aquaripure nitrate filter and it will be showing up tomorrow. I have not decided if I will be hooking it up tomorrow because I would like to have at least 30 to 35 gallons on hand just in case anything goes wrong. I have been having nitrate issues for awhile. My skimmer is rated for 150 gallon tank and my sump is rated for 200 gallons. I have tried macro algae and it has never even made a dent. I do bigger water changes than I would like and the lowest I've ever gotten it was 5.0 ppm and in a week back up to 40. I'm not going to keep fighting this battle when I want to get so many more corals and keep the ones I have. It's a 90 gallon tank. With a eshopp rs-200, a eshopp sump skimmer rated for 150, and UV sterilizer.
    Current tank conditions
    Nitrite 0
    Nitrate 20-30
    Ammonia 0
    PH 7.8

I have looked into the bio pellet reactors and these have many horror stories than the two this filter does and one shouldn't be counted do to user error.
The filter was 280 dollars I got 20 dollars off with the discount code and the filter is rated 60-133 gallons. I will be posting again of the tank readings before I start the filter then through out the day I will test the water coming out of the filter and depending on the readings I will post those. After I see a change in either tank water or the water coming out of the filter I will post. I have only read two people having an issue. One person stated they did nothing wrong and the filter was pumping out nitrites another person put the carbon source in too early(vodka, or sugar. I will be doing vodka) other wise many people have had very good experiences with this filter.

FWIW, Nitrate problems are usually caused by:

    1) Overstocking
    2) Overfeeding
    3) Poor maintenance (not cleaning filters or vacuuming rocks/sand regularly)
    4) Dirty rocks or sand (used from a neglected system)

The first three are self-explanatory; for the last, the Nitrates will eventually leach out, although it may take a few months.

Can you tell us more about your system in those areas?

I only melt 1/4 of the frozen cube and I only use half that and use the rest the next day or I skip a day. People have said I'm over stocked people say I'm not. I have 6 small fish and a 4 inch big hippo tang. And some soft mushrooms, a toad stool, a open brain and a torch. The torch has been growing with the rest of the corals other than the brain. I have attempted to do a 30% water change then a sand/rock cleaning then a 15% the next day and 5 to finish it off. That's what the store recommended. The results didn't last too long.

i have two of the medium aquaripures and my nitrates have gone from 40 ppm and in 8 weeks to zero and stayed their. i do have to clean the output line once a week to keep it clear of mucus.

Has anyone else experienced a nitrite spike with these filters?

Okay so apparently my nitrate problem disappeared over night I'm assuming these results are to my error so Ill be posting again later. So setup was very very easy. The smell of the air coming out of the tube as the filter filled smelled like model glue. These results are really unrealistic so I'll be posting again soon.
