Reef Angel's latest expansion module is the Rope Leak Detector. The 'rope' sensor is 16 feet long and can detect a drop of water anywhere along the length of it. The Rope Leak Detector will work with the Reef Angel or stand alone with an audible alert if a leak is detected from your aquarium. You can actually daisy chain rope up to almost 50 feet if needed. Beyond notifications, when connected to a Reef Angel controller - sump pumps, lights or filters can be turned off as well. Coming soon. Now in pre-order for $99. To see it in action, watch the video below.

Not sure how practical this would be. I mean if you put it around the bottom of your aquarium for example to check for leaks, everytime you did something to the tank and a few drops of water ran down the side of the glass and onto it would say "LEAK!!!!". A whole heap of false positives could just make you sensitized to it and then not pay attention when there really is a leak.

I suppose it could go that way if you let it but a simple way to avoid those issues would be to turn it off when doing water changes or major wet work with the aquarium. That could be done automatically with the Reef Angel.

Also, you could set it up far enough from the tank that you know if it were to go off, it would take a more than a few drops to set it off. This probably wouldn't be a practical every-day setup, but would be useful for when you go on trips or are not home for a couple days.

    Not a bad idea.
Personally I wouldn't mind one of these around my sump in my stand. If I had a big filter room, I'd certainly go with one.

Would be good if it could be hooked up to a kill switch or something for DT overflow.

The way the RA works is it controls individual outlet. You can then program it to have it turn on or off outlets during events (water changes, feeding, etc), or if something happens (float activates, temp gets too hot, etc). So with this you can definitely have it turn off the return pump if it alarmed. Right now I have mine set to kill the return pump if the float I have in the overflow is activated (meaning the siphon failed). If the temp gets above X degrees, I have it turn off the main lights. If the temp gets below or above certain temps, it sounds an alarm 8)

Also you could wrap it around the bottom of the stand, would take more water to reach it. If you spill that much water during maintenance your doing something wrong. :)
