Well since a poll was brought up by matt I thought I would chime in with a question. What is the proper way to plug in all your equipment and how is yours all set up to run?

I have my filter, lights, skimmer, and powerheads all plugged into power bars and those are plugged into the wall into 1 outlet.

Is there a way to calculate how much power you are running into your plugs and if it's unsafe?

    Hi Nemo,

The universal measure for plugs, powerstripps and timers is amps. There's a great description of amps here:
    What is Amperage?
If you need to learn more I can grab my father. He's a retired electrical engineer and professor. Please don't make me do that. He'll bore the heck out of us. ;D

Fire code is typically that you may have one extension cord or surge strip per socket. So plugging one surge strip into another is a no-no. Make sure every cord has a drip loop too. GFCI is also a good idea if you are able to use them.

Don't overload one socket...and a surge protector is a must! GFCI is also very important...JP(JUST PHISH)should be able to help out as well with his being a fireman!!!
Most of it is common sense that we take for granted alot of times!
