I have a 24" dual T5 HO light fixture on my 20g FOWLR aquarium. I have a firefish and wrassee so I need some kind of cover or top on my aquarium, but I think I may want to stay away from glass tops because of the effect it has on light penetration and heat problems. But I need something to cover my aquarium! Any suggestions?

Its called egg crate or light diffuser. You can get it at any hardware store.

Google it for an image. You will most likely find it in the industrial lighting section. Just cut to fit and voila.

No, it won't leave a shadow. Most of us use to to keep the fish in and the cats, kids, and everything else out.

The stuff you are looking for looks like sheets of square holes. I would upload a picture but I dunno how.

    Use google images: light diffuser

Do I just set the fixture directly on the crate/diffuser or use the legs that hold up the fixture?

Egg crate and light diffuser are the same thing. Place directly on top of the aquarium. It should fit directly where the glass covers usually go. if you have acrylic, place it on top of the holes and cut out holes for the legs of your light fixture. You do not want your fixture sitting on top of light diffuser.

Btw, light diffuser comes in really handy for many things, you can make frag racks and shelves, etc. I use zip ties to hold it together..

so an egg crate will let light and heat pass through easily? Does it matter if it is black or white?
