    I think I would feel more at ease with a burnt down house but still standing aquarium ;)

    I lost an aquarium in a fire once... It boiled the fish. I figure they were probably goners either way. I find the story funny, but there's certainly a lesson WRT proper wiring.

    Something I worry about often. Anybody of hear of a smoke detector that can interrupt the AC supply to power strips if it goes off?

    I would rather lose a tank over a house any day.. The whole situation sucks but it could have been muuuuuch worse..

    I'm sure they meant four feet long rather than four feet deep.

    Just get an empty fish tank about 4 feet wide and put it atop the electrical strip.
