Has anyone tried putting a sponge in with your filter sock to reduce micro bubbles?

This is not a direct answer to your question and may not apply to you, but in the off chance that it does I'll respond. I've used simply a filter sock, which was very helpful but required too frequent of cleaning and was not feasible. I found out that the bubbles were being caused by my chiller's return tube being too far above the water. Once I put more slack into the tank to put it below the water surface in the rear chamber it returned to, the bubbles disappeared.

sounds like a detritus trap to me, but if you cleaned it a lot and replaced it enough i dont see why it would be a problem

sponges work and if your skimmer is good it will not be much of a detritus trap but it still may build over time so keep a casual eye on it
