Hey guys. Looking into test kits again; a friend of mine gave me his old kit and I have to say, I like these a lot. They are so much easier to read than most other kits. I haven't used much out of it as most of the tests were gone. Ammonia and ph were the only ones left and I've since purchased a refill for the ammonia.

The thing is, it really bothers me knowing that these were discontinued... Does anyone know why? I'm thinking about ordering some more refills but if they were found to be inaccurate, then I obviously don't want to go that route. If they simply just decided to get out of that business, I would have thought that someone else would have picked it up by now.

Oh and I realize that exp dates are something to be concerned about as well... so far so good on that front though.

Have you tried the salifert brand kits? I have found them to be the best. They are titration method for the most part and my understanding is that makes them more accurate. I used an IO iodine kit a one point...and no complaints...but I switched to salifert 4 or 5 years ago and am very happy. And you are right...expiration date is very important on test kits.

No I haven't, my first kit was a red Sea multi kit. It was okay but I simply hate those color cards. I found the color"bricks" of these kits much easier to read. Plus measuring out the liquid is a sinch, simply fill to line. Oh well. I wish hanna would get going on a full line of colorometers...

I haven't really enjoyed the Hanna Checker ones, if those are what you are referring to. Numbers all over the place.

I can't tell the difference in any of those rotten color charts. I had to go digital where ever I could.

I haven't heard much, good or bad, about the Instant Ocean tests.
