Hey, does anyone know the chemical make up of AquaStik vs. Mighty Putty? I'm wondering if the Mighty Putty is non toxic to fish, invert etc....(no web site to ask) It has a warning label that says Eye irritant..blah blah blah, then May be harmful if swallowed. I'm not planning on eating this stuff, just wondering if I can use it in my tank. Seems like the same stuff but I can't find ingredients for AquaStik. wonder where the msds is on that product! Mighty Putty says it contains epoxy resins and amine, which may irritate skin...... Come on all you scientists out there ;D

it might be harmful when it is still curing or whatever but when it dries (after what like a week to fully cure?) it might not be harmful because it basically dries into resin
so i guess it might be OK if its fully cured

also where do you plan on using it?
(someone correct me if i am wrong)

well the big dummy clutz that I am was taking off the hood hubby and I just built, and I hit my left standpipe(return from pump) and it snapped off at the bulkhead:( Hubby got a piece of 3/4 pvc and put it into the end in my hand and it won't stay in the bulkhead end snuggly. I was gonna use it around the pipe then onto the bulkhead....I got a plan to get all the sand from around it without disturbing it too much.

You can use "Red Hot Blue Glue" to glue two pvc ends together if you can take the fitting out of the water for an hour or so. Once that stuff is dry it is just like plastic. Pretty much everyone I know uses it for their PVC aquarium fittings. It beats silicone for that application because it is much stronger and dries much faster.

    2 problems with that

    1. I own Mighty putty ;D;)

    2. the end that is stuck into the bulkhead that originally broke is made of some kind of plastic and really fragile, and I can't get it out without screwing with the bulkhead, which means tearing the tank down......(or risking a major flood during the repair)

Not sure mighty putty would be safe or not. :-/

Your standpipes are behind overflows right? Can't you cut the return pumps, unscrew the bulkhead, and let the water left behind the overflow drain into a bucket as you take out the bulkhead, replace the piece, and then start everything back up?

Thanks dude.... I'm sure if I email two little fishies and ask them if it's the same chemical makeup, they'd laugh at me or tell me to buy theirs. I have 3 brand new tubes of M.P. sitting here staring at me saying "Use ME, Use ME!", but I don't wanna wake up with dead fish. We turned the pump off to make sure the check valve I put in works and it's cool, it does!
