I don't know much about the Wavepoint but there are a few reefers here that have the AquaticLife fixtures and really like them. You'll want to get better bulbs with either unit though IMO.

I can say a lot of bad things about wavepoint since this is the fixture that I bought due to its price and the ammount of money I had at that moment.

First off, it only has 1 power cord. That means that you cannot turn actinics or daylights at your choice. It's either all on, or all off.

No moon lights, that's a downer, really. And there are no timers or heat fan included in the fixture. It runs quite hot and made my tank go from 77 to 83 in the summer and from 77 to 82 in the winter all I could do is raise it from the water about 6 more inches to keep it at a stable 78.

The ONLY good thing about the wavepoint fixtures are the individual reflectors. But any other not so old fixture now days have them. Also, bulbs were replaced shortly after I bought it.

I would highly advice to get something else. I learned the hard way after I started adding corals that light isn't the way to save money on this hobby, if you want to have corals.

Welcome to 3 reef, by the way!

EDIT: I forgot to say the one I have is the 4x54watts. 216 Watts total for my 55 gallon tank. Things started to do OK after I upgraded bulbs. But still not happy at all with the wavepoint brand. Not a lot of versatility offered.

thanks for the quick replys. i have the hagen glo on there right now with mostly soft corals and a few lps so i was just wanting to add another 78w fixture but i did not want to go with another hagen glo since it does not have individual reflectors.

I love my aquatic life, you can control the white blue and moonlights, and it is so easy to use. I do not have any experience with wavepoint

Thanks for all the replies. i have a 40 gallon tank with the 78w hagen glo and i just got the 78w aquaticlife fixture today to add with the glo because my derasa clam needed the extra light, now my question is will i have to worry about it being to much light now for all my mushrooms, zoas, duncans, and brains? i raised my glo up about 3 inches(as high as the mounts would let me) so it didnt shock my corals with all the extra light at once, but not sure if that will be enough.

    Thanks, Tyler

It could, adjust your photo period back to half and add an hour a week until it is back on the old schedule.
