So I am about to get a light for my 55g tank which just about finished its cycle ;D

The local aquarium shop has a 48" T5 setup with a fan and moon lights, but it is only 2x54 watts. They want $160, which they assure me is the lowest price I will find anywhere.

However, after looking on aquatraders.com I found this Odyssea T5 High Output Lighting

Fan, moonlite, TIMER, and 4x54, all for only $109. It almost seems too good to be true. Is it?

    Thanks!!!

There is a lot of controversy surrounding what Aquatraders supplies, so it will probably be hard to get a strait answer. They are definitely not as good as some of the other brands, but if you are on a budget like most of us they offer a lot of bang for the buck. Some people report problems at about a year so the money you save may be worth it to you for that time period. No matter which way you go I would not get the two bulb fixture. It will limit your coral options a lot.

That's pretty deep. You should be ok with that light if you keep the higher light corals in the top half of the tank. Most LPS and softies will be ok all the way to the bottom. That's how the real reefs are layed out anyway though so I see it as good. Does your tank have a single cross brace?

I run 130pc's from aquatraders and love them, and as i've metioned several times in various post, even if it goes bad in a year or 2,you can replace the whole fixture for less than what some of these guys pay for just bulb replacement,or even a single ballast.I think you'll get mixed reveiws, but for me(on a tight budget),there the cats meow

That is a sweet deal. People have problems (or don't have problems) with almost every make and model. I would seriously consider getting it. My only issue would be about the digital timer. I would call and ask exactly what function(s) are available. What I am thinking is this; can it be set up to turn on some of the bulbs at a certain time and other bulbs later. This would seal the deal for me, but even if all the bulbs come on together it wouldn't nix the deal.

I have an Odyssea MH light. It's over a year old, and still works great. I did get from a lfs, but it's the same brand of lights sold on aquatraders. I did have to replace the bulbs a few weeks ago, and I also saw aquatraders has the best prices. So, I ordered 2 175 MH bulbs, and I received 2 150w (writing scratched out) bulbs. I didn't really mind. One was broken, so we had to call them(after searching google for their number), send it back, and wait for another. All and all, it was a great deal, and i'm glad I did it. The are alot of neg comments, but if you need to save money, then go for it. BUT if you need the lights sooner then I would get them from you lfs.
    Shipping: ~ 1 week
Return: ~ 4 days (possible restocking fee and shipping back to aquatraders)
    Shipping again: ~ 1 week
So, are you really saving 50 dollars?
If you do order I hope your lights are great!

    Good Luck,

    Amanda
