i ordered a rkl but before i did i was studying about people taking a arduino mircoboard thing and making into a controller. Has anyone here done that? it would definately be cool to build a controller to suit you own needs.

There are a couple of us working on one. Very few though.

You can get a Reef Angel for pretty cheap. It is Arduino based and does quite a bit for the cost.

Unfortunately, we are just learning as well. Not much information to share at this point. There are a couple decent threads on RC, and some more scattered around the interweb. Just do some searches and read.

Mine will be a little different.
Most of the programming will be stolen and reconfigured from the Reef Angel software.
The hardware will be mostly the same as the Reef Angel, but with a different main board. I need more Inputs/Outputs than the Duemilanove can provide.

Nope. Sanguino Pro. It has 32 Digital I/Os plus 8 Analog, and 6 PWM. It has breakouts built in, so no soldering needed to attach cabling. Should be more than enough for what I need.
