    Hey all,
Just wondering if all inverts are immune to coral stings? I have a torch, which I understood could sting with its tentacles in much the same way an anemone could. I tried feeding it a few days ago when my cleaner shrimp ran right acroos the thing and stole each little piece of krill from each of its heads. I thought that would be something only some of the anemone-hosting crabs and such could do?

the benefits of having an exoskeleton.

Shrimp are fast movers in general- and they are notorious for swiping food from coral/anemones. Other inverts might not have such an easy time with certain coral/anemones. I know I've watched a hermit get picked up by my cat's eye coral, and the battle raged on for a good 3 hours.

btw, normal feeding tentacles don't actually sting. It's only certain nematocysts that sting. You will generally see these differentiate in terms of length (usuallly 3 x longer than the normal tentacles). They generally don't appear either unless something is bothering the coral (physical or chemical[coral warfare]).

I don't know if immune is the right word. Many may not be effected because of their exoskeletons. Some can also avoid stinging tentacles because they are so quick.

I have shrimp that jump in the anemones mouth and snatch food and it’s kind of funny watching him jump up and down 5 or 6 times before he gets the food. And it’s a carped by the way and I have had my hand stuck to one before a few times do its impressive to see the shrimp get away.
