Controllers can do so much. I use many of the same features. They can also run lights and wave makers.

How did you do this exactly Darren? I have an extra float-switch for my controller. How did you mount it?

Some very cool ideas, and uses for a controller. I know every time the power goes out here I know I gotta empty the skimmer cup. I like the idea of a one minute delay. I do like the alerts and the ability to avoid certain disasters. Basically it's like a guardian for you aquarium.

I have the float switch sitting across the top of my collection bucket which sits outside the skimmer. I have the controller set so when the switch closes it turns the skimmer off - this has saved me numerous times.

I need to do this. I don't want to derail this thread - send me a pic sometime.

I have a thread on here somewhere. When I started my build I wish I built it with a controller in mind. I went with the Apex, and now with the fusion - it is easier to program, I have Acan lights - the light program is amazing the sunrise to peak to sunset to moon is so gradual you dont even notice it. Plus now I have it running everything. My timers are in boxes, I have checks and balances and stability. Needed - no, a good thing to have - yes. That is my opinion. If you have the money for them - get them. They can be a little intimidating to set up - but once you get into it they are pretty simple and the customer service from Apex is AMAZING!!! Just tonight I added a Skimmer neck cleaner - went to the neptune forum and in seconds found a program and have it set up to autoclean twice a day. So many uses.

I have really enjoyed my Apex Jr. It was relatively cheap and allows me to monitor my tank when away on vacation or at work. It is nice to have precise control over timing for dosing pumps, lights, and most of all my temp. I have a heater plugged into my Apex and it has a temp probe. I feel the redundancy will make the failure of the heater almost non existent because if the temperature rises on the heater or if the heater failed it would just shut off the power to the outlet.
