Do I think children are interested in our tanks? "Yes". Are they as interested as we are? I don't think so. Absolutely a great learning experience for a child to be involved with learning about the ocean and it's inhabitants. It's not just like having a puppy. It's an ecosystem, which, is a very important thing to teach your children about. I try to influence all of my close friends to try and learn about the fun of having a reef tank,or, a saltwater tank. I grew up around the ocean in San Diego and Baja California and love it to death. I also love my reef tank.

Yes, very well said. The actual fun is to continously maintain an ecosystem and let the kids get a first hand experience in understanding the importance of a good ecological balance. I agree 100%, it's not like having any other pet.

An aquarium is a great attraction for any kid...It is first place my grandkids head when they come to visit.

Has been a great learning venue for my teens still living at home... about tank care, fish habits, beauty of coral reefs, nitrogen cycle, testing procedures, etc. etc.

And of course this kid (age 60-) is totally infatuated...:p

Every time theres a party in my house, all the kids are right in front of the tank. After they all leave, I have to bust out the rag and wipe all the f***en finger prints from the glass:angry:. It is definetly the center of attention. Not to mention, every time I'm about to test the water, I have all kinds of helpers willing to give a hand, lol god bless their souls.

My kids 4 year old son and 8 year old daughter love the tank. My 4 year loves to help scrub the algae from the glass every weekend and he loves to stick his hand in the tank to let the cleaner shrimp clean his hand ;) I got Reef by Scubazoo and he can name over half the fish & corals in the book.

My wife runs a daycare and the tank is always a favorite of the kids.

First off. What a great thread! Karma to everyone!

My granddaughter loves my tank, she's been watching it since she was old enough to crawl. She started off holding on and now when she comes over she sits and watches it for hours. I've explained as much as I can to a four year old without too much extra, and she seems to understand. #1 NO PENNIES, (or anything else) in the tank!. #2 Grandma feeds the fish! I thing she likes Crabs the best...Calls em all Crabby.... This pic is from the last time she was at our house, before I put all the rock in. My 21 & 22 year old boys and all their friends have always been interested in it. A few even went and got their own.

Great to hear from all you guys....Yeah I kind of missed out that some on the forums are still Kids!!!! ( sorry good teenagers! ). My son is the first to wake up in the morning and makes it a point to come and give me a full report of what's happening in the tank while I'm still in dreamland. It's so sweet I think. And my daughter takes it upon herself to warn her friends not to lay a small finger also on the glass. It saves me a lot of stress I guess... Well in a way!
