Are reef octopus and SWC skimmers made by the same company?

just wondering because like all of the skimmers made by swc and reef octopus have the same names and look very similar

especially the extreme series

or did one just rip off the name and design from the other

 

As far as I know SWC skimmers are made here in Canada, I don't think that they make the reef octopus skimmers, but I could be wrong. I'll have to check on that.

 

Just looked, Reef Octo's are made in Australia, so I would say no, not made by the same people.

 

huh thats weird then but all i know is that both companies extreme series have the exact same name and look almost identical

 

I suppose it's possible the one company contracts the other build the extreme line of skimmers, but I doubt it. It is more than likely a coincidence. Do they come with the same pumps? Are the foot prints the same?

Compared two of the ones you listed, if you look at the dimensions they are completely different skimmers. Look similar but are slightly different sizes. And the pumps are one of the most popular in skimmers. It is possible one company used the other as a model when they were designing their skimmer.

 

yea thats kinda what I was thinking lol seems like they could atleast come up with their own name without adding or taking away an "E"

 

SWC is a company in Canada that builds and designs all their skimmers. They contracted a manufacturing company in China to mass produce them. As I understand it that was Honya. Reef Oct used Honya to make theirs. The rumor is that Octo ripped off some of the design features and SWC moved their manufacturing to another company. Now I did not hear this straight from SWC, but that is the word on the web. CoralVue is the parent company of Octo. It was owned by someone else before.

 

Coylee, I might be wrong m8, but as far as reef octo is concerned its all made in China!
