I am setting up a saltwater 36x18x 24.5H tank for my Dad in his office. He wants a fixture with legs so he can start the tank and then eventually have a canopy built for it. $57 really turned me off just for the legs system. Now I'm thinking a Nova Extreme Pro and replace the bulbs later on. I really wanted to do an icecap driven setup because of the depth but he wants it with a fixture that he can put on his tank now and have the canopy built later. Would I have to find a 36" fixture and retro fit it for icecap?

You could use a cable suspension kit for now, about $30 and then build a canopy. The best method and cheapest would be to use a retro fit kit and just attach it to the inside of the canopy. But if that is not an option, then either get the leg or cable kit for the tek or a nova extreme.

A Tek could probably be set on the tank if you bought the acrylic shield(yeah SLS makes you buy that seperate too) I KNOW a TX5 could.... I would no doubt about it go with the Tek over a Current. If you need the legs for under $57 let me know, but that should NOT be a deciding factor in the light, its only a couple more hours of work.
The Current will COST YOU WAY MORE THAN $57 to be a good light!!!

    Happy lighting!

You can get a ballast from Graingers that will do the job of the icecap430 ballast a fraction of the cost. Just download the specs of the icecap 430 ballast from the icecap website, and have them match up a ballast for you.

And the material that the canopy legs are made out of are, undoubtedly, the very same material they use on the space shuttle!!!!!! OK, ok......fine. Maybe not. But I am with Iraf.....best on the market IMO.

Wouldn't say BEST but one of the top 4.. They are well worth the $$, soon they will also have fans, upon the urging of Jon Manke.

    Happy Lighting!!
