I recently acquired a 4 branch Frogspawn. After a few days in my tank a smaller head stopped coming out. It simply "wilted" away. It was overshadowed by larger branches. I and my LFS attributed this to it not getting enough light due to being a bottom branch. Is this reasoning sound ?

The Frogspawn currently has 3 branches left. they are side by side and the center branch is not only larger, it seems to be more healthy than the other two branches. Should I frag them or let it be and see how it turns out ?

Water params a all in line. Tank is an 8g Biocube with Zenia, GSP, Long Tentacled Green Helio, Galaxia, and a Sun coral. Fish are Os Clown and a Scooter Blenny. Tank has a strict regime of 2g water changes weekly, Micro vert added 3 times per week, Calcium added when test drops below 400. Fuge in the second chamber. Filter floss and Chem Pure Elite in the first chamber. Koralia Nano in the display too....Can't think of anything else to add.

if the branches don't get light they will die. branching frogspawn isn't one organism. each head is basically a coral on its own and responsible for its own growth.. thats why you can frag it no problem. only the fleshy part of the frog spawn is alive. but the fleshy part will retract into the dead skeletal part, so frag with care.

fraging is the best way to grow fs, and make sure it gets light

Wow, didnt now that. My fs is getting really large and some of the branches are on the bottom dont come out as good. I thought it was cause they were new and not as strong. We have beeen thinking of cutting it down, Guess we have to. K+

Thanks for that. I thought as much. Can't say it hurts my feelings. With limited space in a BC8 It will actually allow me better placement for my enjoyment and the FS health at the same time. Win / Win !
