Agreed. The tank looks kinda blah and you never know what parasites or bad stuff could be living in there.

$2.50 is cheap! just clean it out really well before you add it into your tank.

this isnt a cheap hobby so why start cheap? i agree with bmshehan, being smart is different from cheap. base rock will go live. but cheaping out on real live rock is not a good idea either way. you just never know what you're getting with the deal. and simply cleaning the rock isnt good enough. BUY QUALITY you and your tank will be happy in the long run.

    Various colors of Coraline Algae....

Thank looks a little neglected but I have seen worse thats for sure.
I tend to agree though, I would offer less per LB and then Nuke it
before putting in my tank. You will basically starting with base rock
and thats not a bad price even for Base rock.

Please don't use a Damsel to cycle when a piece of shrimp and a
cupful of sand from another's tank will do just fine.

As said, go with base rock. I personally would never buy second hand live rock. Besides the pests/nuisances that could come ON it, there's no telling what type of chemical compounds could be locked away IN it. Its highly recommended to completely nuke all second hand live rock anyways, so why even go through the trouble?

Mostly because you ain't going to find even base rock that cheap and its really not that hard to Nuke it and make it safe again. About the cheapest I have ever seen it is Marco rock and thats 2.69 a LB + shipping which is expensive as heII

I paid $8/lb for mine. Looks like a sweet deal if you can get it alive. If you can pick it up I'd go for it. If you have to have it shipped to you its more of a risk that you'll get a die off.

The tank its in looks like a mess but the coraline algae over the glass is a good indication that the rock will have a lot of it.

There are always risks that you might get something nasty with it. No matter where you buy it you can get aptasia or whatever. No risk no reward. You could use this to seed cheap base rock and get your tank going on the cheap.
