Are these salinity meters accurate?

    Also, depending on how accurate these are, is this a good level to be at for a reef tank?

    They are not really..I have had two or three in my time of being in saltwater and one tested 1.025 another tested 1.023 and another tested 1.019..I tested all three on the same day soo they are not that accurate..But I would recommend getting a refractometer, much better and 100000000x more accurate..You can find them for like $20-$40 on ebay and on craigslist from what i have seen.

    you can keep the hydrometer for doing water changes and stuff though.

    And from what its testing at right there, its good..But cant be 100% sure since they are not 100% accurate.


    BUT if you cant afford a refractometer then use this but AFTER EVERY TIME OF USE, WASH it with clean RO water..If you dont it will get salt build up on it and just be a complete failure at what it does.

    i had one and it worked fine watch for small bubbles on the swing arm that will change the reading make shure it fills slow if you drop it can it most of us keep are tanks @ 1.025

    Yeah i agree..THose will be good for you..

    But you can find them much cheaper then almost 50 bucks..I got mine for 20

    Agree with above. hydrometer is not dependable.
