You most certainly do not want to just pour in a melted cube of food. The water frozen in there is nasty.
-melt the portion in tank water
-pour the contents into a net
    -rinse off the food
-put the food into an empty container
    -get some more tank water
-put the food into a turkey baster or syringe so you can get the food close to whatever you are feeding
-feed a little at a time until everyone is happy
    -throw the rest away
Don't allow excess food to rot in your nice clean tank!

I am into the water change club myself. I change at least 5gals a week whether it needs it or not LOL. My water looking through the tank looks crystal clear. When I siphon my 5 gals in to a bucket and have it setting next to my fresh salt water I can see a difference in the water. The old water will have a yellowish tint to it and the new water will be clear. There are alot of people that dont change water and if that works for them then that is ok. I think you need to figure out what works the best for you and go that route. I would rather do my little water change and give my fish/corals some "fresh" water if nothing else but to make me feel better about my responsibility to the animals/hobby that I enjoy.
