IMO it's probably like us living near train tracks. After awhile you no longer hear the freight train coming through and no longer feel the rumble. God made incredibly adaptable creatures.

Well, i dont know about train tracks.. i have some near my house and my dad still cusses every time they go by.. i'd maybe consider is like the microwave, or white noise created by our refrigerators, heaters, air conditioners, fish tank noise in the house :p We dont notice those other than when i'm trying to use the phone and the microwave is on ><

I hired a fish psychiatrist who recommended daily doses of valium and prozac for my fish!:loco:

    Nice.

Great post John. I have thought about this one a lot myself. I will have to bookmark Camilsky's link.

I wonder if fish have a range that they can't hear like we do. Perhaps that would help resolve this issue? Just thinking out loud. Oops. Sorry fish. :)

Well, the truth of it is that some fish have what they term as a third eye. It's a small gland that they belive works like a compass and gives fish a reference point. This may be why some fish are able to swim vast distances and arrive back to the point where they started yet others live their lives in one small area where there a lot of visual clues.

So, if one were to put one of those 'third eye' fish into a domestic tank, it may drive them crazy. Maybe that's why some fish try to jump out?

Interesting. Sounds decent enough to me. I can't think of any other than salmon or whales or the like though. Nothing small anyway.

I'd say who cares LOL these things are food to many people.. If you want to think about it then how about a dog and their high level of hearing ? I have to deal with loud sounds all my life .. Spend some time in a Old M-60 during a fire fight standing behind a 50 Cal. Ma duce and the 105 being used not to mention the bow guns both being fired LOL And the Air Cav had it even worse LOL the whop whop whop and air movement with door guns . You guys don't know what loud noise is . I adapted they can too. :) A coral head is not all the quiet when a wave rolls over.. Ask a Iron/steel mill worker or factory worker if he thinks his fish are being driven nuts by lound sound's LOL Fish are just part of the food chain like all animals are all over the world.. Just the way it is..

Just because they are food to a lot of people does not mean that we should not show compassion for these animals we put in glass boxes. If there is a way to make it more comfortable for them, I think we should pursue it personally.

This I call compassion Late at Night you set there hearing some guy you properly never met or will ever met again if he lives ? But he has been ripped wide open form a few 7.62 round s or his legs are shot off He is crying for his mother and God.. You leave the safety of your M-60 or wet fox hole and run out to drag him to safety under a hail of AK 47's or larger and mortars and pointing at you as you are the only thing moving to get him back to a medic and a L.Z for a dust off so he maybe will see his mother again ?? No matter of race creed or color he just someone that is dressed in the same uniform as you.. Thats compassion I have shown it and received it.. I'm a compassionate human when necessary I had the bronze star to prove it.. I also like fish in my tank and on my plate.. You can kick me off the board or what ever But I can show compassion.. And what I just described was a everyday or weekly experience for me and and seveal million mote just like myself now close to 60,000 never go to see momma again..
