What I find funny is you can get macs now that come with windows, so it just goes to show how much mac isnt liked by the public. Unless you are a hardcore geek, you dont use macs. Macs are more for bragging rights, because they are more then twice as expensive and cant run half of the the stuff a PC can run. PC's, you can buy any brand, make, or model and everything will work with exclusion to vista, but we all know vista is crap. I dont know if you all remember, some of you all are to young to remember, my first pc was a commodore 64, I think I was like 6 or 7. I use to be a hardcore geek, hence the name, and I have owned macs, and I trully dislike them. Its like going back to using commodores. Its funny when macs commercials talk about their systems coming preinstalled with everything you can get, thats because there isnt much you can get for them!hahahahaha

Just thought I would share bit of my knowledge from working at dell for a few years.... They have store that sells refurbs and cancelled orders, they also have another one for off lease stuff too. The outlet store, they all come with warranties etc, Im not sure about the off lease ones. Here are the links to the sites....

The outlet store you can adjust the view of it, so it will show lowest priced to highest price...

I've been avidly using PCs for about 19 years. My main uses for computers are 3D Animation, Video Editing, Graphic Design, and Audio Production. I've used macs before and have always found PCs to be faster and more stable. Plus in the field I am in, most software is only available in PC.

I will say however, that Windows is the worst OS ever, but PC components are still the best. For those of you thinking of upgrading to Vista, don't, especially the 64bit version. I have 2 nvidia 7950s and SLI just refuses to work in vista 64.

Linux is still the best way to go, I've never had a crash with a linux system, never. But software is hard to find for this OS.

Overall I've spent about 60K on PCs in the last year, which means a lot of maintenance. I'd say the biggest difference between mac and pc, is just that most PC users don't know how to take care of their computers. Mac are more of a toy in my eyes, and not a tool.

Since I've got some time, and I've already written this much, I might as well continue.

NEVER buy any hard drive other than a Seagate. I have used all different brands and I've never had a Seagate go bad, all others always do.

NEVER buy a dell, the components are refurbished and every HD I've ever got from them has crashed in a couple of months. Plus their customer service sucks.

NEVER buy an E-Machine or a computer from any other company that has an altered version of the Windows OS. They usually contain spyware. Everytime I buy a pre-built system I have to reformat it on the first day with a store bought version of windows, or OEM.

DEFRAG your Hard Drives once a week, at least. One nice thing about vista is this is done automatically.

Always buy the professional, or the equivalent version of windows. Home versions always lack tools and code needed to run the computer properly, in my experience.

Always format your HDs in the NTFS file system.

Run spyware checks daily. I recommend, SpyBot Search & Destroy, and Ad-aware by lavasoft, they are free and work great together.

NEVER use Norton anti-virus. Norton will slow down your system, and the code is just written terribly. I understand the appeal of the software, but it just sucks.

If you have a high-speed connection, invest in a hardware firewall, comes with most routers.

Build your own computers, its actually very easy these days to put one together, and much much cheaper. I bought an Alienware for my wife and it cost 6K, I could have built a better system for 3K.
What do you need to build a system:
    MotherBoard
    CPU + Fans
    RAM + Cooler
    HD + Fans
    DVD/CD Drive
    Video Card
    OS

Tigetdirect.com or Pricewatch.com is a good place to purchase parts.
The motherboard manual tells you everything you need to know, and trust me its quite simple. You should always have another system running with the internet, for trouble shooting, if needed.

If you are running a Pentium Dual Core or a Core Dual, you must have a liquid cooling system, or a very cold room. These CPUs heat up quite a bit and usually overheat if proper cooling isn't providing.

Also memory coolers, and HD coolers are recommended, they only cost about $8 - $15 per fan or chip cooler, and they are very easy to install.

Well, that's my two cents, or many cents.

If anyone ever has computer questions, contact me, I'm always happy to help.

wow... PC FOR THE WIN!! lol... i guess after reading up and stuff, i'd prefer a pc anyway... for one, i already know how to do a lot of stuff on them (some of which probably isn't even possible on a mac)... plus, i like the idea of customizing the computer...and finally, i don't think i'd be able to "productively" use a mac.. i mean, you get so used to one thing, and when you try a different method of doing the same thing, although it may be easier, it could get frustrating because you're so used to doing it the old way....

The way I look at it is, you can BUILD YOUR OWN PC! I just helped my boss build a new machine to run our Mimaki Eco-Solvent printer and wow, does it run!

^I like the fact that you can build your own at a fraction of Dell's price and get exactly what you need. Dell, gateway etc have a habit of not telling you what the MOBO is....

How come there is no option for both? I don't want to pick "other" just cause I have a PC and a Mac. I don't feel real strongly about either one. For my use both are the same. I don't play a lot of PC games because you have to keep upgrading and it gets pricey. A Mac or PC work fine for internet and word processing in my opinion. Just wanted to point out that some people are okay with both.
