Which is the second generation stealth? Is this the one with the light on top built into the dial, or the one before this?

See my experience with Stealth Heater explosion here:

    http://www.3reef.com/forums/general-reef-topics/marineland-has-excellent-customer-service-96606.html

The heaters that failed on me did not have the light built in and were the ones with the red plastic dial.

Marineland replaced my heaters and paid for my livestock, replaced the salt used for water changes to get rid of the melted plastic, and the large amount of carbon I used. The experience only cost me the life of my fish, which was a sad experience, but at least it didn't cost me a fortune... Fortunately, it didn't kill everything. I would be devastated if I was in your shoes.

It goes to show that it's a good idea to run a controller, but since I don't have one yet I will definitely consider getting an alarm like the one posted above.

Marineland replaced my heaters with the new stealth ones with the light indicator built into the dial... I hope they have had less problems with these... PLEASE let me know if any of you have experienced/ heard about problems with these... I'm ready to be done with these heaters if that's the case.

Not to knock Eheim as I love pretty much every product they make... The "new" Eheim Jagers are less reliable then when Eheim didn't own them. But to be honest, I have never put any real stock in hobbyist heater thermostats.

FWIW all heaters should be run with an external controller. There is not a single hobbyist heater on the market that I am aware of that has even remotely a decent thermostat built in.

But you have to see it and be there to pull the plug if it does go hay wire?

Those were the ones that were recalled. 100watt and up of the stealth pro heaters.

Sorry, just to confirm we ARE talking about the ones with the lights on them? I mentioned two "Stealth Pro Heaters" heaters in my post. Do you have any further info on this recall?

True, but it sounds an alarm when the tank temperature goes too high (or too low). So if you're at home, you could be busy for hours and never notice a crazy high temperature, or come home from work, got about your business for hours without ever looking at the tank temperature. This way, at least an alarm will sound to alert you.

    It was an aquaclear.

The mandarin was found dead this morning.

havn't dug around for the female leopard. But if the male died I'm pretty sure she didn't survive either. Only thing is, they bury themselves in the sand, which she obviously did... so now I have to 'comb' the entire sand bed to find her body and prevent an ammonia spike too.

And I havn't excavated to see if the other goby with the pistol shrimp is dead, but I suspect he is as the other two goby species in the tank died. I think the pistol shrimp might still be alive though... here's hopin.

The clowns and blenny have run of the tank now... least they survived.

How will this temp spike to almost 95 degrees, and then temp drop (no heater) down to 76 affect my live rock and sand bed?

    Hooray!!!!

The female leopard just came out and she's fine!!!!!!!

If the sand protected her, there's a chance the goby with the shrimp is ok too...

    Here's hopin
