Glad to hear there are survivors.

Also, interesting to hear that it was NOT a Stealth Heater.

Are there seriously ANY good heaters out there?

I think an alarm is a good thing to have... who wouldn't want one?

If your controller has an alarm, that would be good too, but this is second best to a controller in lieu of one.

I went out trying to find that alarm at my LFS today after posting above without any luck. All of my heaters are marineland stealth pro series and my tank is getting hot randomly, so I'm freaking out. I looked at a 250 watt jagger, but it was too long to fit in my sump :(

have you contacted marineland for replacement? i seen a temp controller that cut power at set temps. it was about 50 dollars. not bad for peace of mind really. i cant remember the name of it though. if you google it temp controllers it will turn up

I love my APEX controller.. I can keep and eye on things with my iPad and my temp stays within .5 degrees all the time

Threw an old heater 50 watts in the tank on a timer over yesterday (hour on, hour off so it wouldn't overheat) to keep the tank in the mid 70's. Went down and picked up an Ehiem 300 watt heater for the tank...

And a rainfords goby too :)

I agree with Gabba about using a controller like the Apex. One of the functions of my ACII is to control the heater through the temp probe on the controller unit. The only my heater could ever fail is if the probe on does imo.
